Trauma:
It happened so fast. It feels like it was my fault. I don’t feel like I can trust anyone anymore. Am I broken, after what happened?
If this sounds like you, you’re not alone. Traumatic events and experiences overwhelm our brains and our nervous system’s ability to cope. The research shows that over a long period of time, they can even change how our brain processes information and stores memory.
It doesn’t have to be this way forever. You can be okay again.
I can help you can build coping skills and strategies to calm the panic, be able to tell yourself and those who care about you the truth about what happened, and re-find a sense of safety in your body.
How do you know I can be trusted?
I have worked with survivors of abusive families, shootings, car accidents, sexual & relationship violence, war and political persecution. I am a survivor of trauma myself and spent 10 years stuck in PTSD fog, and I really get what it can feel like. I can help you feel safer, feel more in control of their brains and their bodies, and live richer and more connected lives. I can help you. Let’s get started.
But how?
I am trained in EMDR, including how to work with EMDR over telehealth. I am also trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy and Internal Family Systems (parts work). What’s all that mean? All of that means I have several skills I can use to help you be witnessed in what you’ve survived. I can help teach your brain to move traumatic memories from experiences you have to re-live every day to, if not ever your favorite memory, something more like flipping through a photo album: something you might choose to do, but which isn’t insisting you deal with RIGHT NOW. I can also help you connect with the parts of you that helped you get through it, and help them see that you’re an adult with skills and supports and safety, and help you feel less like some inner-eight-year-old is trying to wear your shoes and do your job.
You’ve got this now.
